ABOUT THE DIRECTORS OF FUN
Story by Geoff Rhodes:
I started my career working at The Ritz-Carlton and oversaw a department called Creative Event Services. We were basically an in-house destination management company for the hotel and our team featured an all-star cast in Scott Duncan (who eventually opened R&D Events Florida), Cari McCloughlin (former Director of Sales) and JP DeLay (founder of R&D Events) and bunch of other rockstars. When the country’s economy took a nose dive in 2008, we were all laid off from our jobs and out of work. One day, JP approached me with the idea of starting a teambuilding company and asked if I’d meet him to discuss the idea. We met at the Whole Foods in Henderson, NV and what was originally scheduled to be a 30-minute meeting, quickly turned into a 3-hour brainstorming session in which we sketched out the idea for what would eventually be R&D Events.
HOW IT STARTED
R&D Events was founded in 2009 on the service values that were gained while both Geoff and JP worked at The Ritz-Carlton. This service foundation was combined with JP’s nearly decade long experience working at ClubMed resorts where he honed his craft as a performer and entertainer. Together, the consistent quality of service and entertainment value we were able to offer our client’s, allowed us to quickly ascend to the top of the industry and become the country’s gold standard in teambuilding.
FOUNDATIONAL ROOTS
When it came time to selecting the name for the company, we choose R&D Events, which is basically an abbreviation for “Rhodes” & “DeLay”, (the last name of each founder). However, it also plays well as “Research & Design” as we are known for always designing and delivering new and unique events for our clients.
